Children Gather with Dinosaurs at the Journey Museum in Rapid City

After posting on Friday about dino sites in the Black Hills - like the Big Pig Dig in the Badlands and Dinosaur Park in Rapid City - I came across a small outfitter out of Belle Fourche that conducts guided paleontology tours throughout the Black Hills and into Wyoming and Montana. Aptly named PaleoAdventures, their website advertises one-day and two-day digs, but I bet you could negotiate longer or shorter trips, depending on the time of year.

The concept seems pretty brilliant to me. More people want experiential travel - including me - and this is definitely a one-of-a-kind experience. Where else are you going to get the opportunity to go out and excavate your own dinosaurs?

The young couple that runs PaleoAdventures also have a dinosaur-themed motel called The Raptor’s Nest Inn just south of Belle Fourche, which is about 10 minutes from Interstate 90 and 25 minutes from Deadwood.
