You’ve got to love Wall Drug

Wall Drug is like no other place when it comes to family tourist destinations. It's quirky. It's kitchy. And it's a lot of fun.

Just ask CNN.com and Budget Travel. This week the venerable roadside attraction was named to CNN/Budget Travel list of Seven Tourist Traps You Love. "Back in September, Budget Travel asked for feedback about bona fide, no-holds-barred tourist traps that readers loved anyway," Budget Travel's Liz Webber wrote.

GMA: Badlands the fourth Wonder of America

Viewers of ABC’s Good Morning America got an eyeful of stunning Badlands scenery with their morning coffee this morning. The ABC News morning show featured South Dakota’s Badlands as the fourth Wonder of America.

The segment included video shot from a helicopter coasting 50 feet above the spires. The crew also interviewed Badlands National Park Superintendent Paige Baker and other park staffers.

A new winter sport for the Black Hills

Winter sports in the Black Hills usually means skiing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. But next winter, professional hockey is coming to the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City.

A new multi-use arena is under construction right now, and it should be done by December 1. That will be just in time for the Rapid City Rush, the new Central Hockey League team to take to the ice on its new home ice.

South Dakota, A Vacation Bargain

OK, we always knew South Dakota is a great place to take a vacation. (We're just a little biased in that regard.) But now, AAA confirms that a South Dakota vacation is a relative bargain as well.

In the AAA Vacation Costs Survey released today, South Dakota ranked as the fifth least expensive among the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The average family of four can expect to pay about $175 a day for meals and lodging in the Sunshine State, according to AAA's figures.

Opera House Community Theater Debut

Dave Sherrer, a Lead-ite, plays Tevye in the upcoming production of Fiddler on the Roof.

I have never been shy about tooting my own horn. I don't think my ego is out of control, mind you, but if I've done something that I'm proud of, I want other people to know about it.

You may have noticed that I haven't put up many posts here lately (oops, there's the ego), and that is because I have been spending every free moment wrapped in a babushka and apron, learning to sing "Matchmaker, Matchmaker." That's right, Fiddler on the Roof is almost here, and it is going to be wonderful.
