Shiny New Black Hills Vacations Reservations Website
If you've ever visited the Black Hills on a vacation package deal, you probably used Black Hills Central Reservations. And you might not have known it, either; they're a bit of a behind-the-scenes bunch, taking care of all the work it takes to bundle hotels, attraction tickets and rental cars into one flat-rate purchase. For ye average traveler, the benefit is only having to swipe your credit card once - and you usually get some sort of cost savings to boot. Imagine a sort of Travelocity for the Black Hills. For the past several months, CenRes (for the sake of using cool abbreviations) has been working on upgrading their website, and they finally went live with it this week at www.blackhillsvacations.com.
Grey-Haired Nomads RV Around the World
You're retired. You're financially secure. You love to travel. Now what? If that's not The Easiest Question In the Universe, it's bound to tie for first place. It's also a question that most of us hope to one day answer. If you're not quite there yet, maybe you can live vicariously through Janice and David from Norfolk, United Kingdom. These lucky ducks are answering that question right now - by RVing around the world.
The Lake Behind Rushmore in National Treasure: Book of Secrets
I've had a couple blog readers interested in knowing what lake keeps showing up in the trailers for National Treasure: Book of Secrets. From the scenes in the previews, its' pretty clear that the distinctive rocky landscape puts the lake in the Black Hills. In fact, the granite formations around the water (in the previews, Nicolas Cage sticks his hand into a crevice in the rocks for a good gag) are so much like Mount Rushmore's rock that some people are under the impression that the lake is behind the memorial. That's not entirely true. There is a lake behind Mount Rushmore - about two miles away along Highway 244 - but it's not the lake in the film.
Top 5 Black Hills Christmas Getaways
Amazing, but true: the blog's been up and running for more than a month now, and there's been nary a top five list in sight. I couldn't possibly go any longer without invoking this great blogging tradition, and given the time of year, it seemed only suitable to make it holiday-themed. If you're looking for a few Christmas diversions on your winter getaway to the Black Hills, these five places should fit the bill.

A New Orleans-Black Hills Weekend Whirlwind
I'm a little nervous. One of my wife's friends from an online writing club is coming out to visit the Black Hills on Friday. I haven't met this one yet, but based on the maniacal giggling coming from my wife while she 'plays with her nerds' (her words) while typing madly on her computer, it's bound to be an interesting weekend. She's flying out of New Orleans, connecting in Denver, and will land at Rapid City Regional Airport around 11 a.m. It sounds like her round-trip ticket on United Airlines, with travel insurance and taxes, rung up at about $400. Considering she booked the whole thing only four days in advance, that seems pretty good to me.
