    The Belle Fourche PumpkinFest

Gather up your little ghosts and goblins and head to Belle Fourche for PumpkinFest—taking place this Saturday! The Tri-State Museum and Visitor Center and the Belle Fourche Chamber of Commerce are collaborating on the first of what is hoped to be an annual event.

The event will take place Saturday, October 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Tri-State Museum and Visitor Center, on its lawns, and inside the building.

The event will include food vendors, craft booths and Halloween décor. There will also be games including Mummy Bowling and Scarecrow Ring Toss. A Mad Scientist table will provide children an opportunity to learn a little about chemistry and make green slime.

A number of contests, with prizes, will take place during the event. The Black Hills Roundup will have a booth with a pallet of free pumpkins and decorating materials, for a pumpkin contest. The Eighth Avenue Bakery will have cupcakes for purchase, which can be decorated and judged for awards. Jennifer Gabriel of First Western Insurance will oversee a calf roping dummy contest.

A giant pumpkin, provided by Chad Carr, and a witch’s cauldron will be in place for photo-taking. There will also be inflatables of various kinds, provided by Nathan Stern, and a children’s train.

The “Haunted” Johnny Spaulding Cabin will be open for visitation. A play entitled “The Ghosts of Minnesela” will be performed by the Tri-State Performers at noon and 2 p.m. This 17-minute Halloween comedy tells the story of Minnesela—once a rival to Belle Fourche but now a ghost town—and also the eerie story about a clock that chimes 13 times each Halloween night.

Pumpkin Fest will also include be a costume contest. Judging will take place at 1:30, with contest winners announced at 2:30, following the final performance of “The Ghosts of Minesela.”

Goodie bags of candy and Halloween novelties will be available for children who attend Pumpkin Fest. For further information, contact the Belle Fourche Chamber of Commerce at 892- 2676 or the Tri-State Museum and Visitor Center at 605-723-1200.
